What We Value Reflects Who We Are:

Are you…

  • seeking greater connection with others, people who cooperate and use consensus to guide their decision-making?

  • concerned about the environment, active in nature, involved in the arts, or engaged in civic action?

  • ready for small-town living (perhaps after years of big-city traffic)?

If so, you will find synergy with our intentional community members. Alpenglow uses cohousing principles so that you enjoy the privacy and autonomy of individually-owned homes while always having community around you to engage as you need and desire. We welcome you to become part of our neighborhood.

Caring

While we enjoy the privacy of our own homes in the community, we also want to be available to each other because we care. We care that you need a babysitter, dog walker or someone to drive you to an appointment. Our multigenerational community members collaborate to beautify our footprint and invite the broader community to events we host. Someone is always home in time of need, and we share a spirit of cooperation so that no one should feel burdened by asking for something. That's what cohousing is about!

Environmentally Conscientious

We are committed to protecting the environment in our neighborhood and the surrounding area. In the Cimarron Range to our east, Chimney Peak and Courthouse Mountain are the most photographed and hiked destinations. In the San Juan Range to our south, a group of magnificent rocky peaks surround picturesque Mount Sneffels, overlooking the Sneffels Wilderness Area.

We selected a homesite with low transportation impacts, within walking distance of everything in the Town of Ridgway and a short drive to a plethora of amenities as well as outdoor and cultural activities. We will incorporate environmentally sustainable elements in our buildings including:

  • Passive solar

  • Solar power (common house, garages)

  • Xeriscape

  • Radiant heat

  • Electric charging

  • Water recapture

Consensus Driven

Alpenglow CoHousing is committed to ensuring all members are heard and all major decisions are made by consensus. Consensus decision-making is a creative and dynamic way of achieving agreement between all members of a group. Instead of voting and having the majority get their way, we use consensus to find solutions that everyone supports or at least can live with. In consensus decision-making, all opinions, ideas and concerns are considered. By listening closely to each other, we strive to come up with proposals that work for everyone.

We have found when making decisions using consensus we end up with:

  • Decisions with high buy-in

  • Superior implementation

  • Enhanced relationships among members

  • Neighbors who know each other at a deeper level as a byproduct of examining issues through heart-centered processes

  • Improved group morale

Reaching consensus takes time to allow everyone to share their thoughts  and to appreciate others' views. Alpenglow CoHousing  is committed to consensus regarding all major decisions while also empowering sub-committees to take the lead on proposing and enacting solutions.
